A new novel by Julianne Lee is coming out about Mary Tudor in Dec. of this year. There really isn’t any info. yet, but I will post when I find out some more!

Here’s the amazon link.

David Loathes is releasing his take on the Six Wives of Henry VIII in his new book “The Six Wives of Henry VIII.” It was released in March in the UK, but is temporarily out of stock! :( According to the publisher, “The true story behind the legend, however, remains obscure to most people, whose knowledge of the affair begins and ends with the aide memoire ‘Divorced, executed, died, divorce, executed, survived’. David Loades masterly book recounts the whole sorry tale in detail from Henry’s first marriage, to his brother’s widow, to more or less contented old age in the care of the motherly Catherine Parr.”

I’m excited about this one! I’m in the process of reading two of his other books at the moment.

In this new, controversial book, Eamon Duffy sets out to show that “Mary’s regime was neither inept nor backward-looking.”

Author Annette Carson in her new book Richard III: The Maligned King ”seeks to redress the balance by examining the events of his reign as they actually happened, based on reports in the original sources. Eschewing the overlay of assumptions so beloved by historians, she instead traces actions and activities of the principal characters, using facts and time-lines revealed in documentary evidence. Daring to investigate areas where historians fear to tread, this book raises some controversial questions. Was Edward IV assassinated? Did Queen Elizabeth Woodville engage in witchcraft? Why did Thomas More lay down his pen, leaving his dramatic attack on Richard unfinished?”

I think I will really enjoy this one! Ever since my visit to York last month, I have been interested in learning more about Richard and the truth behind the image given to him. I’m interested to see Carson’s interpretation of the evidence.

A new look at the life of Elizabeth, author Richard Rex paints an “intimate biography of the public and private life of Elizabeth I. Too many biographies of Elizabeth I perpetuate the flattery she enjoyed from her courtiers, leading Tudor historian, Richard Rex (author of The Tudors ‘A model of popular history’ THES), reflects more critically on her life and reign and highlights the contrary personality of a Queen who could both baffle and bedazzle her subjects.” It’s being released in June.

According to the publisher, This is the “first major biography of Henry VIII least favourite wife - but the one who outlived them all!” Indeed, there isn’t much out about poor Anne. Though she was quickly discarded by Henry, she had a very pleasant life as the “King’s good sister.” It’s by Elizabeth Norton (who has recently written a new bio. on Anne Boleyn) and due to be released in August.

I am adding this one to my looooooong list of must haves…as soon as my pay check expands to accommodate!

David Loades is releasing another new book at the end of August titled “The Fighting Tudors.” I assume this will be about the Tudor military and wars, however there is little info. about it out right now. Here’s the amazon link.

David Loades is a busy man. He is soon to release another book about the Cecils, the influential family close to Elizabeth. It is due to be released in August. However, there is little info. out about it now. I will keep updating as I get more. Here’s the amazon link.

Interesting look at how words can hurt you. Author David Cressy explores speech in Early Modern England and its influences. He shows how in Tudor times saying the wrong thing could get you executed! The book is released in October. Here is the link.

Here, “Paul Cavill offers a major reinterpretation of early Tudor constitutional history…Drawing on extensive archival research, he challenges existing accounts and revises our understanding of the period.” The book will also be out in October. Here is the link.

This new book, looking from Thomas to Oliver Cromwell and Reformation to Revolution. It’s by John Schofield and should be out in October. Not much is out yet on it, but I will keep you posted as I find out more!

Quite a bit about Elizabeth is coming out soon! Here is another focused on her navy by David Loades due to be released in October. Here’s the amazon link for those interested in reading more.

This is the first of a two volume set which will attempt to “fill the gaps not only among the registers, but within them. Wherever possible, the texts of actual dispatches are married up with the corresponding register entries, enabling historians to consult entire documents, rather than rely upon the clerks’ often crude summaries. Above all, the sources, and the topics to which they relate, are fully contextualised through reference to the latest scholarship.” It is due to be released in November.

This sounds interesting, but unfortunately doesn’t come out until 201o! According to the publisher, this is “the story of a remarkable and frenetic period in Elizabeth’s life: a tale of love, death and tragedy, exploring the dramatic early life of England’s Virgin Queen.”

Roderick Graham is releasing a new biography titled “The Life of Mary, Queen of Scots: An Accidental Tragedy” in July. He is attempting a new look at Mary, painting ”a unique picture of this controversial woman, showing her to be neither a Catholic martyr nor murdering adulteress but a passive young woman caught up in the ruthless sea of sixteenth-century politics who lacked the shrewdness and empowerment of her contemporaries.”

A while back I posted that author Leanda de Lisle would be answering questions posted by fans of her latest book about the Grey sisters titled “The Sisters Who Would Be Queen.” Well, she has answered them and they are now on the Jane Grey Reference Blog here.

I mentioned a while back I wanted to do a live book blog. Well, I still do! I have not forgotten about it! However, school has kept me extremely busy this semester! But, starting in May I plan to start the book blog. If anyone is reading a book they would like to blog about, please let me know! I would be happy to post other book blogs as well! You can contact me here.

The article discusses the writer as well as her new novel, “Wolf Hall.”
